How To Make Your Holiday Guests Comfortable in Your Home

Comfortable Family Lying on Floor of HomeWith Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, many families have already begun making plans to play host to friends and family this holiday season.

If you are accommodating holiday visitors in your Fountain Hills-area home this winter, you can make them feel more comfortable and welcome with a few simple tips.

Nothing makes a visitor to your home feel less welcome than clutter. Personal items all over the place make guests feel like they are invading your personal space rather than being welcomed into it.

You can create a more comfortable and inviting environment by removing personal clutter from your porch, entryway and living room. You don’t have to go all out and clean every square-inch of your home, but tidying it up a bit will make a huge difference.

Freshen Up

Did you know your home could have an unpleasant odor without you realizing it? It’s nearly impossible for you to notice odors in your home because you become used to them. However, you can still remove unpleasant smells by doing a few simple things before your holiday guests arrive:

  • Take out the garbage
  • Thoroughly clean your kitchen and bathrooms
  • Ventilate your home (open the windows, if possible)
  • Vacuum the floor and dust your furniture
  • Clean your drains (baking soda and vinegar can do this for you)

These cleaning tips will help you remove the source of most odors in your home. But some smells can come from your heating and cooling system, in which case you may need a whole-home air cleaner or duct cleaning to get rid of the odor entirely.

Provide Warmth

Even in the Fountain Hills area it can get chilly during the holidays (although visitors from other parts of the country may disagree.) You can make sure your holiday guests are comfortable in a couple of different ways.

    • Give out lots of blankets – Everyone has a different idea of what a comfortable sleeping temperature is. Providing your guests with plenty of blankets will make them more cozy and feel more welcome. You can also let them know where additional blankets can be found.
  • Supply a comfy robe – If you have a spare bathrobe, leave one in the bathroom for your holiday guests. It’s an added touch of comfort they will surely appreciate.
  • Adjust the thermostat – You may have a programmable thermostat that is set to lower the temperature (to save money) while you are away from home each day. But if your guests will be home, you should adjust it for their comfort. It may also be a good idea to show them how to use the thermostat so they can adjust it themselves if they need to.

De-cluttering, freshening up and providing warmth will help you make your holiday visitors more comfortable in your Fountain Hills-area home this winter.
